Tulsa, Ok. -  After a hard-fought 80 minutes, 35 of those minutes being played with only 14 men, Tulsa was unable to overcome the visiting Arkansas Gryphons.

Arkansas was first on the board with a penalty kick in the 17th minute. A few minutes later the Gryphons were allowed what can only be described as a very questionable try to pull ahead by 10. A drop goal at the 35’ mark closed out the first-half scoring with the Gryphons holding a 13-0 lead.

Coming into the second half, Tulsa made two subs with Po Zenishek and Pierce Linblad stepping off, being replaced by Mason Lane and Dame Lyons respectively.  Tulsa got things going right away as Dakota Wilkinson scored a try just 5 minutes into the second half. The conversion by Pete Shipley was good putting Tulsa on the board 13 - 7.

Standout flanker Brendan Ennis was subbed off in the 10’ minute of the second half only to have his replacement immediately carded and sent off. Tulsa was forced to play a man down for the remainder of the match. The bad luck kept adding up when speedster Tim Gardenhigh was injured during a great breakaway that could have opened the floodgates for the hosts. However, Gryphons fullback, Frank Masotto, made one of his several try-saving tackles on the day and Gardenhigh had to be helped off the field, replaced by Rashaad Smith.

Gryphons fly-half, Aiden Olivier slotted his second drop-goal of the match to extend the Arkansas lead.  Tulsa continued to attack when given the opportunity to play open rugby. Finally, the build up was rewarded with an excellent try in between the posts by Man of the Match Ethan Ringer, and conversion from Shipley, Tulsa was within striking distance 16 - 14.

The final 10 minutes saw Tulsa drive into Arkansas territory on several occasions. Those drives led to attempts at 2 penalty kicks to take the lead. Unfortunately for TRFC, both were unsuccessful. The Gryphons were able to ice the victory by retaining ball with a ground and pound, pick and go style of keep away.

Man of the Match:
Congratulations to Ethan Ringer who turned heads again with a great performance. He was selected by the Arkansas Gryphons as Tulsa’s Man of the Match.

Join the club on the road for our next match on Saturday, March 7th in OKC vs the Crusaders at Will Rogers Park. The Women’s team will have their spring debut at noon followed by the Men’s match at 2pm.
